Deadlines and Notification:
- Entries must be submitted by Sunday, December 13th, 2024.
- Only the winners in each category will be notified via email of who won.
- Winners will also be announced on GCC's CRW blog by February 2025.
Submission Entry Requirements:
- You must first save your written entry on your computer as a .doc, .docx, .odt, .pdf, or .rtf file (i.e. document saved in Word, Wordpad, OpenOffice or compatible).
- DO NOT include your name anywhere on the document. (Judges must not see your name when reading your entry.)
- Your Maricopa student e-mail account must be active. For more information see the Student Email page.
- Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines may result in disqualification.
Length Restrictions:
- Fiction (short story): entry shall not exceed 3,000 words.
- Poetry: entry shall not exceed 67 lines.
- Non-fiction: entry shall not exceed 2,000 words.
- Drama (one-act play): entry shall not exceed 3,000 words, including stage directions and production notes.
Special Theme Category:
- As part of our GCC at 60 celebrations this academic year, we have an extra category for student submissions. We're looking for essay, stories, poems, and scripts that explore the theme of Multi-Generational Experience.
- Note: This is an optional, additional category for submissions. Students are free to submit work of any subject or theme to our standard genre categories.
Multiple & Simultaneous Submissions:
- The Traveler accepts multiple submissions. You may submit up to five (5) poems and up to three (3) submissions in the other genres.
- Pieces submitted to The Traveler may also be submitted to Maricopa's District Writing Competition.
- During the submission and review process, if your work is accepted for publication elsewhere (excluding the District Writing Competition), please notify the Traveler staff immediately.
