Chinook Winds Region is the governing body for The United Church of Canada working with communities of faith in the central and southern portions of Alberta. As stewards of United Church mission and ministry in our geographical area, we are called to support the work of communities of faith through ongoing dialogue, spiritual support, and governance support. We are also called to help advance United Church mission and ministry through program planning, and through the wise stewardship of shared resources.
This document is intended to be a tool by which local communities of faith and Chinook Winds Region can collaborate together in planning and implementing mission and ministry initiatives. Our authorization flows from The Manual of The United Church of Canada, 2019 edition, Sections C.2.1-C.2.4, as it may be revised from time to time. The work we engage with communities of faith is further grounded in the following statements of purpose outlined in Manual 2019 Section C.2.4:
“The regional council is responsible for encouraging and engaging in:
a) joining our collective hearts, voices, and resources to witness to the gospel and vision of Jesus for a compassionate and just society, both in Canada and around the world;
b) local, regional, national, and global initiatives and partnerships (community, ecumenical, and interfaith) for ministry, mission, and justice work;
c) ministry with children, youth, and young adults;
d) honouring and living into intercultural mission and ministry; and
e) living in covenant with Mother Earth and All My Relations in the Earth community”
Within this scope of missional purpose, there are a wide range of opportunities for communities of faith to partner with Chinook Winds Region to advance our work together. Please review these statements of purpose as you consider your own local program and mission initiatives.
Grants will be given for projects with one or more of the following purposes:
• Research and analysis of present local church life in society;
• The fostering or creation of vibrant new forms of ministry;
• Training and/or support of church leadership;
• The promotion of multicultural and intergenerational ministries;
• The development and establishment of community-based ministries (possibly partnering with other agencies).
Using this Proposal document, we will be able to understand together what you have in mind, how your group wants to implement its ideas, what outcomes you are seeking, and what kinds of resources you will need.
